Miles per tank?

The 'Big Boys' (which I assume means Big Twins) also get very good mileage if in a good state of tune..
My EFI Softail (with Screamin' Eagle Race Tuner and good Dyno tune) averages right at 48 MPG, which is not much less than my 1200C.
I usually stop every 100 miles or so, but with it's 5 gallon tank it would easily run 225+ miles between fuel stops if I pushed it....
My EFI RoadKing is quite a bit heavier, but it still get around 44 MPG.
Big Twins aren't the "gas hogs" that many assume...

None of you here with your 2000+ bikes have "Peanut tanks," haha. This is the real Peanut tank (2.2 gal):

I hate the way you have to post pics on this site, such a PITA!
Anyway, with that 2.2 gal tank and all my motor work (carb'd Ironhead), the most I ever got was 76 miles before having to hit the reserve.
I just finished reassembly with a Nightster 3.2 gal tank, new paint, and smoothed rear fender. We will see if I can hit 120 miles now. Dunno:

I usually start looking at the 130 - 140 mile mark for a fuel station. Riding solo I have gotten 178 miles before having to switch to reserve (carbed model - still have reserve). Riding with the wife, I start looking at 110 miles and have had to switch to reserve at 130 miles...

Off topic but are those the Nelson-Rigg Silver Streak saddlebags on your Sportster? I just used mine for the first time on my Bonneville. Wow, they fit great and they're big too. Put the Silver Streak roll bag on too (it just clips to the saddle bags) and I had tons of room. Great bags for Sportsters and Bonnevilles.
Yea, those are the Nelson-riggs bags. Had them for about 2 years now.

Nightster fuel
I agree. I can hardly do more than 100 miles with the nightster. It has V&H full system. Anyway it makes a big difference between tour and city usage. In the city i cant even reach 80 miles without fuel light popping!

I have a 2006 883XLC with a stage I and I only get 34 miles per gallon, and I am good for 120 miles before I HAVE to get gas. If I am on the freeway and I hit 120, I will switch it to reserve so I dont start to sputter in the next mile or two before I get to the next exit with services.
60 miles per gallon? on a sporty? I dont believe it. I get that on my Kawi, but the Sporty... no way.

I have a 2005 1200C that is running Screamin' Eagle "SE" cams. These cams have a higher lift than the stock 1200 cams and flow more air/fuel than the stock setup. When my Harley mechanic friend installed the cams he also optimized the air/fuel mixture. Needless to say, the bike is kept in a very good state of tune.
The bike constantly gets 50+ MPG.
True, I live out in the country and don't do the 'stop and go' city traffic thing, and I also use the Sportster for it's intended use (cruising), so I don't abuse the throttle.
Just my opinion, but only 34 MPG with a Stage 1 883 just doesn't sound right.
