Default stock adjustable shocks

Ok, now for a dumb question. Where should the pretension on the shocks be for one or two riders? I looked in the owners manual and it shows you how to adjust the shocks, but unless I missed it, it doesn't say you should have mote or less pretension with one person or two people. The back seems awful stiff, but that may be because it is new.

I set mine on position 1 when riding by myself I weigh 170 and it seem to ride fine. When I have my wife on the back I put it on position 5, my wife is not a light weight , weighs about the same and the bike has not bottomed out yet.
