Default New Pipes Question

so i really like the V&H's short pipes that come off the engine and just sorta stop. they are short and look really really cool. but, are they good for touring? my wife and i are going to use the bike for longer rides, hence the sissy bar, soon to be new seat, soon to be touring windshield etc. BUT are the short pipes good to go on long rides with? or should i be looking at long pipes. which are ok to, but i like the look of the shorts.
so are long pipes for cruising and shortys for ripping around town? does it matter?
thanks,
J

Jehote,

For what it's worth, I had pipes on my bike and I tour frequently. There was a harmonic developing at cruising speeds (60-70 mph) that drove ME nuts - even with ear plugs. I took the pipes off, put the stockers back on, and now it is a pleasure to ride long distances at any speed. I would think if you really want to go to a set of pipes, make them the longer ones so your ears are not quite so close on those long trips.

Yea it really depends or the rider. Short shots are very loud, but I ride 300-400 miles and it doesnt bother me. I say go with em.

I don't feel that the stock pipes provided me with the "Harley" sound that I paid a premium for when I bought this bike so I went with the H-D SE11's and don't have any complaints. They are a little louder than stock or the SE1's but not so much as to be annoying (in my opinion) than some of the others available out there.

the longer pipes will move the sound further back away from your ears. People behind you will hear the noise tho theoretically shorter pipes are louder, it really comes down to baffle design, larger more 'restrictive baffles = quite l short shots have very small baffles

I ride with ear plugs, mostly for wind noise. I got them from a shooters supply house and you can still have a normal conversation wearing them. Pipes make the bike sound like a Harley and it runs better. Picture attached.

I've got a set of Hooker Troublemakers on my bike.... and have had no problems in that area... but I get a ear full of wind noise so I don't know for sure...

I love that Harley noise myself and often play with the throttle on a trip just to get an extra shot of it now and then.

Maybe you should consider also some 2 into 1 pipes, ı mean ıf you lıke them .
Caliber makes some really nice.
Here ıs a LİNK
I personally would lıke to have the C-730 or C-731 ( Dont know the difference between yet )
Just my 2 cents

I LOVE my V&H Short Shots! They are quite loud but don't bother me when I wear my full face helmet, but when I wear my skid lid I do have to wear ear plugs if riding for extended periods.
