New Pipes Question
so i really like the V&H's short pipes that come off the engine and just sorta stop. they are short and look really really cool. but, are they good for touring? my wife and i are going to use the bike for longer rides, hence the sissy bar, soon to be new seat, soon to be touring windshield etc. BUT are the short pipes good to go on long rides with? or should i be looking at long pipes. which are ok to, but i like the look of the shorts.
so are long pipes for cruising and shortys for ripping around town? does it matter?
thanks,
J

RE: New Pipes Question
Jehote,
For what it's worth, I had pipes on my bike and I tour frequently. There was a harmonic developing at cruising speeds (60-70 mph) that drove ME nuts - even with ear plugs. I took the pipes off, put the stockers back on, and now it is a pleasure to ride long distances at any speed. I would think if you really want to go to a set of pipes, make them the longer ones so your ears are not quite so close on those long trips.

RE: New Pipes Question
I don't feel that the stock pipes provided me with the "Harley" sound that I paid a premium for when I bought this bike so I went with the H-D SE11's and don't have any complaints. They are a little louder than stock or the SE1's but not so much as to be annoying (in my opinion) than some of the others available out there.

RE: New Pipes Question
the longer pipes will move the sound further back away from your ears. People behind you will hear the noise tho theoretically shorter pipes are louder, it really comes down to baffle design, larger more 'restrictive baffles = quite l short shots have very small baffles

so are the longer pipes loud as well? the stock pipes suck.....
thanks, J

RE: New Pipes Question
I've got a set of Hooker Troublemakers on my bike.... and have had no problems in that area... but I get a ear full of wind noise so I don't know for sure...
I love that Harley noise myself and often play with the throttle on a trip just to get an extra shot of it now and then.
