I ride to work for the same reason you did, but my commute is 70 miles round trip so the savings are greater.
Oh and lets not forget that I save $20-$30/day by not parking my truck.
I haven't computed mine yet. Gas in Michigan is anywhere between $2.95 and $3.05, and it's probably more or less in other parts of the state that I am not aware of. All I know is 42mpg is better than my trucks 16mpg (highway). I don't want to know what my truck gets in the city.
Rhubarb.......dude .......where do you live where parking is soooo much and gas at $3.50..........
San Francisco Bay area...
Parking in downtown SF. It can be as much as $60 if i have to park at my office instead of a few blocks away. Sometimes the cheaper lots fill up. Trucks and vans cost more to park even though they never park my truck in an actual spot, they just move it around the lot.
Gas around here is in the $2.77 - $2.83 range this week. I notice it changes weekly as those OPEC AHole's love yanking the good 'ol American's chain. Sure wish I could ride my bike to work everyday as I would save a ton of cash. Probably $4+ a day. With the idiots on the road during rush hour, the scoorching FL sun, and the friggen terrential rain that pops up every 5 mins it's touch. I work 25 miles from my house. It should take me 35 mins to get to work and back. With the traffic I sit in it usually takes me over an hour. Would love to move closer to the office but the area ain't the best.
I rode the bike to work today too.... round trip is 60 miles, so I probably saved a few bucks vs the 4x4. BUT.. I got to thinkin about those new '07 models and took a side trip to the dealer. The dealer is 30 miles further away, so that added another 60 miles.... then I decided to ride all the way home with a friend to his house... that's another 20 miles... then I took the backroads home... that's another 20 miles...
errr... I guess I didn't save any gas. And the dealer won't get any '07s till nexty week.. soo I gotta go back. I had to fill up before I got home.... but I had fun! It's hot out and even 70mph doesn't cool you off!
