Default 883 Stage 1 Questions

Hi all. I have a 2009 XL883N with a set of Rush slipons (2" baffles). I am contemplating adding a Ness Big Sucker intake and the Ness Big Shot tuner. Just not sure if I want to invest in it. What kinds of gains would I get? Would it be noticable on the 883? I intend to do the 1200 upgrade down the line in a year or so. If I did do the upgrade, would I be better off switching out my 2" baffles with their 2.25"? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well with my 1200 nightster I noticed a pretty big gain. I have the V&H fuel pak and V&H sideshots pipes with my own high flow air cleaner that probably flows way better than any aftermarket out there. I have went back and rode some stock sportsters including the new XR1200 and I have way more power especially torque on my bike. Would I say the power that I gained was worth the almost $1000? I would because there are more advantages to the stage 1 than a power increase. There have been studies that show that Harley engines with properly tuned stage 1 upgrades last a lot longer than the fuel starved factory set up motors.

As far as the baffles go, by increasing the baffle size you will be losing some lower end power and adding some higher end power. So basically to feel the higher end power increase you are going to have to use more throtle in the higher RPMs.

I would slap the new air cleaner and tuner on when you do the 1200 upgrade so you don't have to get the bike tuned twice.

If you are going to do a 1200 upgrade leave it alone until you do the conversion and then do the stage one. The Big sucker is a good choice but making these changes now and having to have it on the dyno is going to burn some $$$$. After the conversion you are going to have to do it all over again and burn more $$$$. Do the 1200 conversion first.
