I finally got my 99 fixed, it was a biatch. When you turn the switch off/on, does the odo or anything register? Or is it totally dead? The sensor that triggers the speedo/odo has a connection under the seat, or it does on my 99. I would check that first, since you were in that area changing the battery. Those sensors run about $65 or so, back when I bought mine. It has a large TRIANGLE connection under the seat, with red, white and black wires, and the sensor is down on the tranny (I think) and is held in with one allen head screw. Good luck, and please post back.

I expect your demon is under the seat. Like I said, it is a large, probably 3/4" TRIANGLE connection, if I remember right. And it has a red, a black, and a white wire. 3 total.

>BUMP^ to correct my incorrect description of speedo wire connection under seat. It is a triangle connection, not black as I stated before. Thanx!

Good luck. Mine drove me crazy, but I had a bad speedo AND a bad sensor. Long term storage is good for nothing, a bike needs to be rode regularly to keep things moving and OK in general.

I believe the white wire coming from the sensor is the info wire to the speedo. The tech will know. I honestly don't know myself. Have you checked the connection at the speedo itself? There are two rows of pins, about 5 or 6 in each row. They bend easily, so be careful.

Good luck, keep us posted. RD
