Speedo/Tach bracket broke

same, twice
on my 03 1200 xlh. dealer explained he knew someone who broke 5. been looking for a permanent and reliable replacement and have cobbed something up in the meantime which looks awful but I don't need to worry about the instruments hanging by the cables while going down the expressway. If I come upon a source/part -- something NOT made out of cast aluminum with our without chrome overcoat, will let know.
The speedometer/tachometer bracket on my 03 XL1200S broke yesterday. It broke on both sides, right at the bolt that mounts it to the steering assembly. I was amazed at the cheapness of the material used. Looks like some pot metal. I figure vibration and the pot holes contributed to the break. Either way, I zip tied the bracker to the steering assembly, and it's solid now. New bracket on order, one week wait.
Anyone else ever have a bracket break on them?

I have an 02 sporty and my speedo and tach mount broke at bolt holes. I know it is a common problem so I am looking to change to a single digital speedo with a tach in it. I am wondering if anyone has heard of this being changed to the new mount that is on the later gen of sporty's? And where I could get one other than HD?

Does anyone know the price of the new mounting bracket from a Harley dealership? I am suppose to go riding with my brother this weekend in Arkansas and of course today my tachometer bracket broke and I leave in the morning and of course I notice when the dealerships are all closed. I found a website that can next day air it to where we are staying but I want to know the price different between the OEM Harley part and this other one since I would have to spend more on shipping for the next day air. Thanks.

Tried that on my third one. Gave up and went with the side mount speedometer bracket and took the tach off.

I had mine break on my '03 like mentioned in previous posts. I sandwiched the mount between a larger washer on top, and a piece of metal beneath the bracket, which I adhered with JB weld. That held. I also had problems keeping my highway pegs from vibrating loose. Later on I sold the bike and purchased a rubber mount model: they have more leg room, but weigh 60 lbs more.
