It's hsndy for anyone who rides a motorcycle to know that their local bearing supplier can sell them:- not only bearings, but also primary and final drive chains, sprockets, drive belts and pulleys at a fraction of what their H-D stealership will charge them.

dealerships do not sell secondary chains and secondary chain sprockets.

Yes, it’s called aftermarket, except you can do it from your phone. This isn’t 1987, it’s not like local bearing shops have a secret place they get specific chains, belts, pulleys or sprockets.

Cool

Not to alarm you here but wait until you see what it costs to have it installed. Then try and tell your dealer that you bought your own belt and would like them to install it. ...

I don't need anyone to install a drive belt, I can do that myself, if I have a problem with it, I have a buddy who's a fully trained motorcycle engineer. He stripped my six cylinder Benelli 900 engine down to it's bare crankcases to get them vapor blasted, he rebuilt it replacing the primary chain with a new one and reprofiled rocker arms and new piston rings.. He's a useful guy to know.

Yes I do know what aftermarket is and yes you might well be able to order from your phone in the USA. I live in the UK where H-D components aren't that well known, that's why I took my drive belt to my bearing specialist to have it measured, It was still on the bike when he measured it. I didn't actually need a belt, I was curious to find out how much he could supply one for.

I was an engneering parts buyer for a concrete manufacturer's maintenance department for almost eleven years. I was dealing with bearing specialists on a daily basis. One of them supplied me with a simplex 630 chain and sprockets to replace the worn out duplex items on my Benelli 900 Sei. The price was only £100 including drilling mounting holes in the rear sprocket, the Benelli dealership wanted £300.

I'm fully aware that this isn't 1987, it'll be 2022 in just over a week.

Stick with the OEM belt, you won`t find a better one from the aftermarket, same with the sprockets.

Harley-Davidson don't manufacture their own belts, they are manufactured by the Gates Corporation in Denver CO.

My local bearing supplier sells Gates Powergrip belts for around one third of the cost of a Harley-Davidson branded Gates belt.

Gates sell belts to H-D, they put their mark up on them, H-D distribute the belts to their dealerships, the logistics company charges for haulage, the dealership sells the belts to the customer, they put their mark up on it. It's easty to see why the OEM H-D belts cost so much and in the end the customer pays that final price.

The Gates belts that I was buying for concrete manufacturing conveyor belts transfer tons of concrete products at a time, they need to be very strong to cope with all that weight.

Gates have been manufacturing drive belts for motorcycles since 1980, their belts are American designed and manufactured quality. Gates claim their Moto X9 motorcycle belt is the strongest in the world.

Really, they dont?

Next you are going to tell us they don`t make their own oil, or tires either.

I didn`t say that Harley Davidson manufactures their own belts.

I clearly said "Stick with the OEM belt".
