Default Cost of drive belt

How much does a new drive belt cost? A friend of mine just broke his and he said they were around $200.00. Is that right? I guess I didn't realize they were that much.

He best learn to be smooth with the power,,,thats expensive,,,
If he Likes to Pop it hard,,,better investment would be swappin to chain drive.
I mean,,200 dollar belt he is gonna break again,,,200 more,,
Chain conversion would be cheaper I bet

I just bought one a couple months ago and it was some were around $150. The chain conversion that led sled has would be around $300.

How many miles are on the clock? Harley recommends replacing the rear pulley at the same time. In Canada, the belts are $300 and $280 for the pulley. After chewing up 4 belts on my 06 XL I switched to chain drive. I won't go back to belt drive.

Typical belt life is listed at 75,000+ miles.
But rocks or sand in the belt will definitely shorten that number, as will abuse. Lots of highway mileage is also going to give better belt life vs stop and go riding.

Default It's fair price.

Well I can tell you without a doubt of my belt aftermarket was $180 plus taxes shipping was free from Dennis Kirk it arrived 3 days early no problems very happy with that I saw all the posts about how much they cost dealership wants $1,200 oh my God is it worth that is that right that can't be right oh and here's the good one oh it only takes you about an hour half an hour come on man there's certified Harley mechanics they're going to do the s*** a lot faster than any of us to turn our own wrenches they're going to charge more because they got certified and they can and realistically if you're not if someone is not capable or they're unsure in themselves replacing the drive main drive belt is not really a good idea if you're not confident 100% and plus and your abilities as a mechanic everything has to line back up right exactly right or you just shred another belt which could cause a lot of damage to your body changed my all that being said I changed my 03 Sportster remain drive belt last night in the dark 32 degrees under a straight line with the car jack and a motorcycle ramp balancing under the frame 7 and 1/2 hours I'm going to say a half an hour that was just because I have the flu I've turned all my own wrenches on this bike for over a year since I purchased it I've owned a mini motorcycles over the years I've always I've always done my own chains my own belts belt drive is pretty much the same deal as a motorcycle with a chain for me it was and on the sports that was now a road King's softails electric glides I understand there's a good bit more involved in it so I would say a certified Harley mechanic by my estimate would probably charge $1,600 would be reasonable and it would take them 5 hours 4 hours probably 4 hours in a shop environment proper lighting and whatnot every two and nothing bolt at your disposal within a reach that's my take on it oh 100,000 miles after a lifespan on a drive belt b******* maybe if you're 80 and you never drive your bike over 30 25 30 mph I ride it all out ***** to the wall as fast and loud as I can possibly go everywhere I go and it's my main my main source of transportation my only source of transportation less than $25,000 mi on my belt and it still looked like a brand new belt on the outside and it's just 883 guys rolling on the throttle first gear from a dead stop just making a U-turn snap wee wee. $260 tow bill $180 part on the side of the road for 6 hours till the tow truck arrived I might be getting that back through my roadside assistance insurance I hope I didn't I'm not paying for full coverage insurance on a 03 for nothing that's the way it goes guys it's really not much debate in it and I can see fixed rate pretty much for the mechanic's time and a fixed rate for the belts you either buy the aftermarket which is pretty f****** good for what I'm seeing on my bike or you pay out the nose for the OEM and you still get a good quality product it just depends on what your budget can do and believe me it's no fun for me to kick out 180 bucks a week after I moved and 260 on the f****** record these things happen a lot of the estimates that I've seen are correct 1200 to 1600 bucks is fair if I was to do the job I did last night for another person I'm not a certified Harley mechanic I would charge him 1600 plus material and mine's a Sportster if you're familiar with the task it's a hell of a lot easier on my Sportster than it is on the bigger bikes

If your friend still has his old belt, tell him to take it to his local bearing supplier, most towns and cities have one. The bearing supplier should be able to measure the belt and match it with a stock belt that he can supply. My local bearing supplier here in the UK quoted me £61.00 ($80.89) or a "Gates Pwergrip) drive belt for my 2011 XL883N.
