on my 98 Custom I've figured out that its either the throwout bearing or the clutch.. I figured I'd start with the bearing.. since I can get it for about $10.. My question is.. do you need a clutch plate compressor tool to do this..
The issue is I had to keep adjusting my clutch about every 50 miles.. I started with the easy stuff, replaced the cable (I thought the cable might be stretching.. )
after I got the new cable on went for a test ride.. same thing.. got home adjusted it.. rode again.. same thing.. this time when I pulled in the driver way when I pulled in on the clutch lever.. it makes some really odd noise.. best I can describe sounds like a turkey call.
No I didnt need the tool.. but if anyone does this I would suggest on getting a good pair of snap ring pliers. I got mine out last night and back in in about 2 hours.. it was warn down there were no ***** left in the thing.. I'm going to ride my bike back after lunch.. ill let you know how it goes..
Thanks for the info dude, i am having the same exact problem with my 98 1200 Custom Sportster. I'm not too mechanically inclined so I will get a friend to help. Thanks.
