Well, first things first. Call it by its proper name. Suicide Cruise Control Switch.. SCCS for short. Leave it loose.

The first time my buddy was showing me his 38 Harley, between the spark advance, foot clutch and no return spring on throttle let alone two cables, I guess Harley should be allowed for one idiot switch still on there.

Trying to use it for cruise control will keep you occupied in case you are tired of talking or singing to yourself.

I don't get those saying it is a suicide switch. All it does is hold the throttle in one position, unless you really crank down on it, which will probably break the little plastic pieces, you can roll the throttle off. And worst case even if the throttle sticks wide open all you have to do is pull in the clutch and that will disconnect the engine from the rear wheel. Your bike has a rev limiter, won't hurt a thing. If you don't know how to use a clutch, well I can't help you there.

I’ve used them for decades with no problems. I haven’t flown for a while but when I was, most light aircraft that used a vernier throttle had friction locks on them.

Exactly, use them all the time when I was flying. Tighten them up just enough to hold the throttle in position when you remove your hand.

Pretty hard to compare flying to riding a bike. Its not like another plane is going to pull out in front of you causing a panic stop.

Or pass you and pull back abruptly in front of you.

However, like people who use it, you can easily over ride it by twisting the throttle back.

I simply never use it since I take a break ever hour or so. And my FI throttle spring is so weak, just hanging on holds the throttle open. My friend has that plastic palm lever like shown above. Makes no sense to me. I guess I must just lean back and hang on while others lean forward with their hand off the throttle.
