The set on my '05 have a 90 degree bend on one end. They were on the bike when I bought it.

Maybe you got the wrong set? My parts book has a set for '86-'03 XL, '04-'06 XL and '07 and later XL. My guess is you have the wrong ones.
Im not crazy about how it looks with the bend there, but its fine. I like the orane color down there ill post a pic soon.

The box says that they are for 04-06 so im pretty sure the set is right.

I have a set of black SE wire on my XL50 and they are like that and like was said they will only go on one way and the bend goes to the coil. The are alot thicker than the stock wires so I had to route them a bit differant, but it ended up looking better anyways. The are good wires for the price.

Just snug it up good, maybe 20-30 ft lbs, the OEM nuts are self locking.

I have the orange screaming eagle plugs and I am pretty happy with them. Install was just as simple as you described in your first post. As another use stated, you should use a dab of dielectric grease as it helps keep out moisture and as a means of lubricating and sealing rubber portions of the connector without arcing.
