Like was said, hot wet towels for a while to make it easier to clean bugs off. Pledge after they are off to make it even easier next time.. But I personally avoid lemon pledge as it has been known to attract bees on occasion.

All I've ever used is hot water with a microfiber clothe. Works just fine.

Do NOT use Rain-X on lexon windshield! It will cloud it and ruin it. I use the hot towel and soak method. Use only cloth or microfiber and not paper towels.

Don't use Windex, it tends to separate the lamination of the windshield.
I often don't have easy access to hot water on the road or in the garage.
I use the 50/50 mix of hydrogen peroxide to break down the bugs, spray it on and wait a couple minutes. The bugs are protein which HP attacks, the guts break down and then you can wipe them away with a microfiber. Be sure to snap the towel after wipes to get the body parts out of it. This works on the windshield, chrome, glass and paint.
I then finish up with Novus plastic polish.
