Default help guys... difference between forks?

ok, I've got a fork seal that WILL NOT seal, on the 4th seal in that many months of riding. I come up with the idea, change the whole right side fork out and went hunting! I come up with a set of forks from a sportster 2006 and mine is a 2004, I get them home gonna do the quick change and be done with the headache I put the new fork up to the one on the bike to find that it's at least an inch shorter! DAMMIT!!!! if this came off of a shortened bike, what will the differences be? the sliders look to be the same, now will the difference be in the internal parts or will it be the actual upper tube itself? Please let me know your thoughts...

oh yeah, just for giggles, if I put both on my bike which will drop the front end, what is this going to do to everything as far as handling and ride? (not really entertaining this option)
