I've been hearing this noise for a while now. I've put 12000 miles on my sporty since I got her new so maybe this noise is normal. Not sure. I can only describe this sound as almost a whistling sound or the sound you hear when your window is just slightly open on the interstate. Just thought I'd see what you guys have to say about it. Bike feels the same as it did 2 years ago, but I hear this sound all the time regardless of what speed or rpm I am at.

 

Make a video... there is no way anyone is going to be able to identify a problematic whistling noise unless it's very common. Are you sure it's an engine noise, and not the transmission?

 

My 2009 1200L makes the same noise only under moderate to hard throttle, noticed it
shortly after the 1000 mile service, I have 5500 now. I will be checking primary this
weekend, will post results.

 

jkinner, yours sounds like it may be an exhaust leak. Have you checked the nuts where your pipes bolt into the head? Mine did a similar thing at 4k.
