Here's the deal. I have an '08 XL 1200R. When I flip the RUN switch, the pump makes a pretty nasty sound. It sounds like it normally does for a spit second and then drops in pitch a couple of times. It sounds like a dying robot. Also, I am getting about HALF the gas mileage I should be getting and the bike acts like it wants to die and starts sputtering when I accelerate. I took out the fuel pump module and everything looked pretty good.

Any ideas?

Also, would it be feasible to plug the module back in and hit the run switch while it is OUTSIDE of the fuel tank to get a better idea if it is a bad pump?

OK. First off, thanks for all the help.

I plugged the pump back in and it ran fine, so I put it back in the tank and put the tank back on. I filled her up with new gas and everything runs fine now. I am thinking that either I had bad gas or that there might have been some debris in the tank that was obstructing the intake on the pump. Now I just have to see what kind of mileage it gets.
