how to change gas tank
hello all,
I need to replace my gas tank on my 2010 883 iron, and am not sure where to start. I have herd that the fuel pump and mechanism is inside the tank. my real question is if I need to buy a new pump and such or can I transver the existing one to a new tank if it works? I am also woundering what other options are out there other than the original tank? lastly if anyone knows where I can get a tank new or used please coment.
Thanks in advance for any advice,
DUB

The fuel pump assembly can be put in the new tank as long as it has the cut-out for it. If you are going to buy an aftermarket tank, J&P Cycles lists one for the EFI bikes that will use your pump but it will be bare metal and will need to be painted. I am sure the dealer has them in many color combinations but it'll be pricy. Best thing to do is to find a used one and have it painted the way you want it.

As stated, the tank can be changed and the old pump reused. Just pop off the seat, remove the front bolts and rear, pull everything that is on the bottom of the tank, and it will come right off. I have an OEM tank brand new available, if interested. It is pearl white, but I do custom painting/airbrushing, so the sky's the limit!

Im just curious as to why you "NEED" to change your gas tank is it a want or did something happen if something happen (and I know its probably not much on a gas tank they cover) but being a 2010 maybe its something you could look into with harley if you got any kind of warranty (dont hate me Tennessee I know your trying to make a sale)

And when you put it back on just because you hear a click doesnt mean its all the way on. It may be on enough to pass gas and run but when you hit a hard bumb it will come off and everything will die....................I bet your wondering how I know this
