Ye ole Smoked Stator
The HD dealer diagnosed my 93 Sporty that I just bought as having a "smoked" stator. Guess I should have known something was wrong with the occasional backfiring. The small dealer where I bought salesman told me that was normal, & I wanted to believe.
Anyway, is it OK to drive this bike around until the stator is fixed? Plan on getting at least a new voltage regulator too along w/ the stator. It won't damage wires, breakers, or battery?

No, It won't hurt anything at all that isn't already damaged to ride around with a bad stator. But, you're really gonna be pissed when there is finally zero electrical on the bike, and you're standing on the side of the road.
If the stator is really bad...that standing on the side of the road won't take very long at all.

I'm going to have an outside shop do a new stator & voltage regulator for $100 labor @ $50/hr. Looking to get the Cycle Electric parts myself.
Unless I go with that 3-phase 38A kit then it would be about $600 or so for all that.
