sorry for the late reply, everyone, but thanks for all the ideas! i wouldn't trust leaving my helmet just hanging (unfortunately), but some of these ideas are great!

I have never locked my helmet on any bike Ive owned. At 6' 180 I'm not the biggest or toughest guy around by far yet I've never had anyone try to steal my helmets. I figure if they need it so bad let em have it not cut it off, that serves no one.

At this stage I hang mine over the right mirror and close the chin strap between the handle bars and throttle cable, never a problem.
