Hi all - I am a new rider with a spanking new 2012 Iron 883. I am looking to get some input into Helmet Locks, where you can "secure" your helmet to the bike when you leave it. I know nothing is completely secure with a bike, but wanted to get your feedback on whether they are worth it or not, and if so what brand/make fits the Iron.
Thanks - appreciate it...
I've got a half shell helmet, usually just stuff it under my bike when parked. The helmet gets a bit scratched, which makes it less appealing to a thief. The more "used" my helmet looks, the better.
Of course, what kind of loser steals someone's helmet off their bike?
If you use a full face helmet, I've found this to be the best option.
Keeps the helmet away from the dirty ground and the hot pipes; keeps it right-side-up so if the sky gets wet, the inside stays dry; and it's a cable lock so unless someone is walking around with bolt cutters, your helmet isn't going anywhere! It mounts to any 7/8", 1", or 1.25" bars. It's called HelmetSecure Helmet Lock.
Why bother? If someone is low enough to steal a helmet, they won't think twice about cutting the strap. For years, I have simply left my helmet hanging on the right grip by the chin strap and have never lost one to a thief.

keeps honest people honest. I'd rather know that my $400 FF helmet is safe rather than just trust other people not to mess with my stuff.
see thats where you went wrong 400 bucks on a helmet. 40 dollar helmet no one wants. I agree though if they want to steal your helmet bad enough they will cut the strap or just rip the damn thing off your bike. I leave mine on my handle bars usually Im in a group of 30 bikers so no one messes with our bikes but if they ever did it would be one hell of an *** beating.
why not just carry it? and remember that if someone wants your helmet bad enough they could pull up in a pickup and just load the whole freakin bike up just to spite you. that being said if someone needs my helmet bad enough to steal it from a stranger than maybe they need it more than i do...
