I think chrome and metal-flake paint jobs are coming back... look at the '72.

Fads and trends come and go. People will eventually get tired of 'blacked out'.

Imho vivid black and chrome = classic HD

But I would be willing to bet that the blacked out flat look will be around for awhile.
Wonder if there is big savings in manufacturing.

as referred to the younger riders ^, i am 24 and have an iron. i love the blacked out look. not sure if its because im young or its just my taste, or both. but i love the look. i have never been into the whole chrome look. just isnt my taste. my parents loved their chrome harleys though. as long as i am alive and kicking, the look will be staying with me and my bikes in the future.

I don't mind flat black/dark grey, got used to it in my Ducati days with their "dark" models.

I think it really suits cleaned up bikes like the Exiles.

I'm going kinda the opposite route though, all metal, mostly sanded flat, with no paint and probably any detail work done with rusted steel, chrome, some brass etc.

Not exactly sure what exactly I'm doing, but that's what the winter is for

edit: flat metal, the new flat black lol:

Please excuse the WIP appearance

I actually like both looks. My '90 Sporty has plenty of chrome and it takes quite a while to get it looking the way I like, 5 to 6 hours or so but the result is dazzling. That being said I also like that lean, street fighter look of the blacked out bikes. Plus it sure would be nice to just be able to hose it down once in a while. Now, If only I could afford another bike I could have my cake and eat it to. BTW, this is my daily ride. None of that weekend warrior BS for me.
