push start question
been searching on here how to push start my bike and i have it down now except for one thing...everyone says to "pop" the clutch. do they mean to just let it go completely so it engages quickly or are you supposed to gradually let out the lever?...also just in case the bike doesnt turn over, how bad does it buck when in gear but it doesnt start? are my chances of goin down pretty good? haha
Just let it go all the way at once. Also, use 2nd or 3rd gear to make turning the engine over easier. I get a buddy to push and then right when I want to pop the clutch I jump up and land on the seat at the same time I let the clutch out. Helps keep the wheel from slipping.
Note: It looks like your sig pic is a Nightster. You're going to have a much harder time bumping an EFI bike than a carb.

2nd gear, about 10 MPH, let her rip. It does help to jump on the seat. If it doesn't go, the tire will just slide for a few feet.
Either way, it can't be very good for just about any part on the bike.

I had to push start my bike one time, thank god I was on a hill lol. The only "mistake" I did was start it in 1st gear, it would have been alot easier and safer in a higher gear, like 2nd or 3rd

But let check your regulator, could be toasted, mine did, changed by my indy under warranty, there was a recall on all sportsters built between oct 2011 to march 2012, IIRC.
