Default Actual cost OTD??

Hi

Been lurking around for a while and a couple of posts

Wanted to try and get as much info as possible before making a decision on what to buy and this has been a great site for everything – so thanks for that

Probably going to go for the 883 (2014) – fairly stock, all black, with ABS I think

Will probably do a Stage 1 thereafter, with V&H pipes, air cleaner and XiED’s……………then maybe a new seat and some Progressive shocks – just to save my ***!!

Question is on price

Stock price is $9194 (with ABS)

What should I expect to pay on top of that for dealer to prepare, taxes, delivery, etc, in NY

I have no trade in and it will be a full cash payment – with the 2014, I assume there is not much haggle room on discounts, etc...........or would it be more likely for a store "voucher"?

I would prefer the 1200C, but that is coming in at $11694 (with Black engine - so about $2600 more expensive and cant really justify that right now)

Thanks

Just to throw a wrench in the works, consider looking outside your area for '13 leftovers, once the '14s start hitting the dealers - unless there is some reason you absolutely have to have a '14.

Good point

From what I can see the only real difference between the 2013/2014 seem to be;

Better brakes??
Better speedo
ABS option at around $800

But don’t see much else really??

And I am guessing that there will be some discount floating aroud for the 2013 models…………..if I find one

Not sure where you are in NY, but like I said, you may want to look outside your area. When my dad bought his last bike, we ended up driving a good 45 minutes away to save almost a grand because our local dealer at the time were ********.

I don't have my paperwork in front of me, but I think the dealer prep fees were about $500 (I bought a '13 Seventy-Two yesterday). Sales tax is what it is (7.125 in NY?).

Did you just phone around dealers to see who had stock or just drive on spec?

Are the dealers not able to do an inventory search of local dealers?

Nearest dealership to me is New Rochelle

And don't tell them you'll be paying cash until the very end......They want you to finance so they get extra interest. Call or get online quotes from several stores. Treat it just like a new car deal.....They have wiggle room.

zorro69:

Go for the 2013,there are plenty of 883's left. When I bought my 2012 I picked the one I wanted and told the saleman to do the paper work. The price started out at $8050.00 + 315.00 dealer prep + 315.00 delivery charge from the plant to dealer + 6 1/4% tax [Texas].Final price was north of $9200.00.I laid down $8100.00 cash and said take it or leave it.......he took it so fast I got whiplash and this was in the middle of 2012 model year.CASH talks man......

If its about the $ I'd shop around for a 2013 or maybe a 2012 model. Think you could strike a good deal on one of those. If its not about he $ I'd go for the brand new 2014. Bigger brakes, ABS, gear indicator and what not! Since Harley brakes are crap it won't hurt with some ABS power

About the price...where I live, which is at the end of the world (Sweden) the price for a 2014 Iron is $17.300 (candy paint) or $16.900 (black denim) ...!
a 48 or a 72...$22.015 (candy/pearl) or $21.550 (solid colour)
a 1200C...same as the 48&72.

I hope you'll find your "dream bike"!

I learned a lot during my last dealer purchase. Haggling annoys me so I'm not going to try and dig too deep in to their pockets next time.

First, I'm going to know exactly what I want and how much it costs before I walk in the shop. I'm going to have it all written down on a piece of paper in my pocket so it is crystal clear and I don't forget anything. The HD store is very exciting for me. I easily tend to forget mathematical details in there.

I'm going to offer MSRP plus tax, tags, and title. (In your case that would be about $9,100 for a Denim 883 with ABS + tax and title for wherever you live). I don't want to pay for freight or set-up and I will ask for my 1,000 and 5,000 mile service to be free.

If they can do that, I will buy their bike, and I will even wear their t-shirt .....if they throw one of those in with the deal too.

Also, the dude-man-buddy treatment at the dealership won't work on me again. No allegiance, I'm shopping it out! I'll pitch my offer to every dealer in riding distance...

During my last purchase they tried to add $1,200 to MSRP due to "scarcity". Then they tried to hit me for a $750 paint upgrade on a bike that was denim as a standard on the Harley Davidson web page.... Know these type of facts or have them written down before you even walk in. Know what you want, what it MSRPs for, and how many are around before you even walk in. The guys at the dealership were adamant they were right on these information points, until I told them I could run out to the car and grab my laptop to show them!

Those are the lessons I learned during my purchase back in May of this year.

Good Luck.

Thanks guys - really helpful

That's why I was asking about the dealer costs, set up costs, delivery charges, etc as I wanted to go in with a fairly accurate price so as not to be "conned"

I do fancy the 2014 models with the "smallish" upgrades and then do my own after purchase - but guess there will be even less negotiation on those

Though again, if I go in with cash in hand, it is going to be interesting to see them say no thanks

So basically, stock price + 315.00 dealer prep + 315.00 delivery charge plus sales tax should give me a ball park figure?

So for the 2014 883, that would be $9194 (with ABS) plus $630 plus 7.2% tax = $10500 approx.

Wonder if a 2013 could be had for around the $8000 mark in total??

But thanks guys
