This is what I was thinking on my 1200 c with the 4.5 tank. Plus, as I am pretty tall, and with my arms in the way, I don't see how I could actually see or use the mirrors mounted under my bars.

But, for those that it works for, it looks sweet!

I mounted mine up side down., with straight bars and 1 1/2 risers.
I can see just fine, past my knees.
There is about an half of a inch clearence to the tank. 2002 stock tank

I'm using flipped long stem mirrors with 4.5gal tank.

That's exactly why I went a completely different way - even away from the OP question. All the rear view obstruction is due to arms and shoulder width, so the mirrors need to go further out to the side. Now, H-D mirror stem extenders move the mirrors up, not to the side.

Then I stumbled over a Küryakyn mirror stem extender (P/N 1444), which is actually bent to an additional angle. Thus, the long part of the stem now points horizontally sideways, kind of parallel to the bar. So my mirrors stay above the bars (no looking down to spot what's in my back!), but go several inches to the side. Suits me, and the look is OK - most important, it resolves the underlying problem.

The only thing to be aware of: now that your mirrors are sticking out, you gotta keep in mind that your bike is actually wider, so watch out when wiggling your way through a traffic jam or navigating close quarters. And, if i dropped the bike, yes, it'll be a new mirror, too.

I guess it isn't the tank size that matters then. You're handlebar geometry is different since you don't have a riser. The 1200c bars sit closer to you because of the riser.

I tried fitting the black short stem mirrors and the stock 1200c mirrors (slightly longer stem). I can guarantee neither fit my bike (2014 1200c with stock riser and bars).

I did it on mine and it's fine, but I have a smaller tank. My Dad did it on his old 1200C and while it did clear the tank on full lock....it didn't leave much room for adjustment. Best thing, just try it and see.

.....and take care! I recently bought a 'new' gas tank with a showroom dent at a knock-down price.....

Any changes to the stock bars or riser? Also what mirrors was he using (stock, short stem, long stem)? I really wanted to do this, and was disappointed it wouldn't work.
