I also did a full Stage 1 right of the bat.

You will learn very quickly especially if you ride for a couple hours that the seat sucks and is in need of a change, I went with the HD Brawler seat and it made a world of difference, the Forty Eight has a lot of torque and with the stock seat you will find yourself on the rear fender more than the seat not to mention the stock seat will make your butt cheeks hurt as there is very limited cushion.

The Tank was my third mod, if you ride a lot you'll get tired of stopping for gas and the extra gallon surly helps. I went with the 3.2 King tank - all link where I bought it: http://www.sportsterspecialty.com/ha...gas-tanks.html $195.99

The rest of the mods is pretty much personal choice, not really needed in less you want to make it your own..

Love my 48! This is my 5th Sportsters out of 9 Harleys I have owned. I have the keyless ignition (really neat) and ABS. Had to use the ABS recently. Convinced me that I will never own another bike without ABS. I use my bike to commute back/forth to work (60 miles round trip). Get 44-45 mpg mostly highway/freeway riding (avg 65 mph). I fill up every morning (3-5 minutes...not a big deal).

Well then the stock tank works good for you, good deal, I ride mine more for pleasure and I ride with guys that ride Fatboys, Customs and Springer's an average day of riding is in the 120 to 200 miles range, about the time I need to refuel so do they so it works out good having the larger tank. But if you only ride 60 or 70 miles then the peanut would be good enough.

i say go for it, i kept my 48 stock for 3+ years because it was just that awesome to look at and ride, this week i finally got it back with some upgrades that i have wanted to do and its like i got a brand new bike. Go for what fits your needs, just don't say what-if 2 months after you own it. If you don't mind me asking, what is the price difference between the two bikes you will test ride tomorrow?

Do it! I bought my 48 last September and I'll never look back. Its just such a raw beautiful bike that gets compliments everywhere. Only thing I didn't like and still don't is the stock springs in the back but I'm eventually gonna do the Street Glide swap like a lot of other users here.

I love my 48. I also love the look but put a 3.3 tank on it and mini apes. It zips and is just "solid" feeling at high speeds. Great bike, this one's a keeper.

Up date rode dealers HD1 customization. not thrilled, rode the 48 awsome ride
dealer seemed low on my Xbones for a trade but business is business, may keep x bones as it is paid for and just buy the 48, dealer is running a special with complete stage 1 and SE mufflers, said they would install complete pipes if I covered diff of mufflers and pipes this may be my negotiating point, bike is at msrp.
I will be looking to change the bars out maybe bitwell window bars or just risers if I can and stock bars?
