Default Visiting Florida in April

Visiting Florida in April coming from West Virginia. Looking for any helpful information on riding Florida. I understand there are toll roads possibly throughout. My wife and I will be riding from St Petersburg to the Keys and back up to St Augustine. Where could I find info about these tolls and how to handle them on bikes.

Thanks in advance

Most toll roads in Florida are toll by plate photo if you do not have a SunPass.
You get a bill mailed to registered tag address.

You should also consider planning ahead to avoid i-75 and turnpike when on the bike.

Toll by plate. They will send you a bill.

This is true, but the "toll by plate" costs more per toll. You can online purchase a SunPass device and save on every toll. It may pay for itself in the money saved by having it. I have three, one for the primary car and one for each bike. There are lots n lots of toll roads in central & south Florida. I carry the device in my windshield bag on the FatBoy and in the right saddle bag on the RKS.

There is also a time factor to avoiding Toll roads. I was recently "traveling" in central FL and had Goggle Maps set to avoid tolls. I/we ended up traveling an access road, with traffic circles and stop signs right next to the toll road. Access road speed limit was 35 MPH, toll road speed limit was (? 55 or 65) much higher and non-stop. A bit of a pain to avoid paying $3.50 to the Loch Ness monster. It's your ride, choose wisely.

A local Toll is $1.89 with the SunPass and $3.89 it Toll by Plate. 🤷‍♂️

P.S. check on Goggle Maps to see if the toll is shown for the road. I avoid interstates, toll roads and ferries (dirt roads too) when I route plan. I'm going to look into toll costs vs the route to avoid them.

Stay off the toll roads nothing to see there anyways unless your in a hurry. Otherwise take 75 S. out of St. Pete. down to Naples, exit find some food. Get on route 41 S. out of Naples the Tamiami trail. this will run you E. through the everglades with places to stop and see along the way. We take this to the 997 cutting S. through Homestead into route 1 S. to key west.
Route 1 back N out of key west up into Ft. Lauderdale. We stop at Lesters diner eat then head N. and the cutting over to 95 N. Don't get on the I-95 express this has tolls. I forget exactly where we enter but you'll figure it out. 95 N. all the way up the east coast into St. Augustine. Be careful not to get on the turnpike its boring & expensive.
