Poker Run Ideas
Iam new to trying to organize a poker run. I know a little 5 year old girl who just got out of surgery today she has been diagnosed with Astrocytomas brain tumor.
Her family are not to well off at all. The little girl loves tinkerbell from disney. And just wanting to help raise money for her and her family. Any idesas somewhere in Jacksonville florida.
Iam really new to the idea. How would I go about starting one???????

You are in for a lot of work. Pick a date when there aren't other events going on near by. Map out a ride (I suggest 100-150 miles).
Get some dedicated volunteers and stops. It's common to start and finish at the same location but it isn't necessary. Arrange for entertainment, food etc.
Contact businesses for donations. Prepare to run auctions, raffles etc.

The first thing is to know how to play poker. I had a royal flush using three wild cards and got beat by 5 Aces and 5 wild cards. Natural cards > wild cards and there is no poker hand consisting of 5 of a kind.

I'm probably thinking too far ahead. Let's say it's organized, and you're ready to go. I've been on 2 different types of poker runs, and only 1 of them do I do every year. It's at a dealership. Registration is from 9 to 11. $10 for the rider. $15 for a rider & passenger. Pick the 1st card at the dealership. Get a map & follow it to the next 3 stops. Last stop & last card is back at the dealership. You can ride the route by yourself, or you can ride with a group of people you know. Just have to be back at the dealership by 3. Best hand gets a prize. Worst hand gets one also. For the cost of registration, you get lunch when you get back (either burgers or hot dogs, etc.), door prizes donated by local businesses, there's a band there also. It's a pretty fun day. The other one was out of a different dealership, and it was a run where EVERYBODY left at the same time, made a stop, and rode back to the dealership. I know there are alot of people who won't ride parade-style like this. Do it like the 1st one. The route's about 125 miles. They had hundreds of bikes. The other "parade-style" ride had only about 70 bikes that showed up. Hope it helps.

Sell 50/50 chances and give out a ticket for door prizes then at the last stop have the door prizes already pulled with the ticket beside the item. This helps speed things up for the end of the ride so folks can get home if they need to.

Some good ideas here. My company does a poker run every year during a week long festival the town does. We do pretty much what Geezr said about the first one. We give the stops in the order they need to go in. They can get there however they want too. Let them buy extra hands if they want for $5/hand. It increases their chances. But do not let them pick which card each draw goes on. They hand you their punch card and then draw. Very good advice in talking with the local dealership and HOG chapter for ideas/help/volunteers. Check also for a Rolling Thunder/Patriot Guard Riders group. They can give some great advice as well.

Get plenty of volunteers to try and get donations from local businesses and hold silent auction and raffles at the "dinner " stop. Good luck and I hope you raise a butt load of money!!!!!
