I have an 11 RKC and have the same issue when I upgraded to the Hammock seat. Mine's not too bad you kind of have to sneak in under the wide part of the seat.
I have the same setup and you do have to squish the seat in between the uprights. I don't know if I'd call it normal but mine is the same on an 09 FLHX.
