Default "VINERR" at Start Up

First please allow me to apologize if someone has already submitted a post concerning this issue. I am new to the forum.

I own a 2015 Street Glide with a little over 2000 miles. Yesterday morning when I started the bike I received the "VINERR" message on the odometer. I received the same error message when I started it later in the afternoon. Both times the bike seemed to start very rough. I have done a few upgrades on the bike: Rhinehart slip-ons, Roland Sands hi-flo air cleaner, Stage 1 download, Boom Audio Stage 2 upgrade. About a month ago I received the same error message and the bike would not even start. I came back an hour later and the bike started right up. Side note: Yesterday I notices my right taillight bulb was blown.

Anyone else dealing with this issue? Thank you for your responses.

PS. I keep the bike on a trickle charge when garaged.

I've read they do that if the battery is crapped out, or the starter is not getting full charge to turn the motor over.

Have your battery load tested, and check all grounds/terminals at the battery etc.

Here's a link with someone fighting the same thing:

Thanks lp. I have an appointment this weekend for just that purpose. I read on some other forum it could be related to the voltage regulator.

Are you using a trickle charger or a battery tender? There is a big difference.

Hmm I'm getting this occasionally on my 16 Fatboy with Thundermax. I guess I'll take it back to the Indy that installed it and have them deal with it.

When the boom radio was installed, did they use the factory wiring harness? If it was just wired in w/o using twisted pair leads to the controls it can be confusing the bikes computer. That CAN system is very sensitive to EMI.

Been there - Done that.

Battery cables loose or battery getting ready to kick the bucket.
