Default Clymer service manual

I'm ordering a service manual for 2012 Touring models, don't want a download, the paper copy is more handy while working. I can get a Clymer manual for $50 Cdn., but some reviews say they are not as good as the factory manuals. I'm not going to be doing any engine teardowns myself, etc., but overall maintenance, wheel removals, etc. I will do myself.

Are people happy with the Clymer manuals?

The factory service manual is a lot better than the Clymer, I think most people would say.

I have both. Some of the pictures in the OEM manual are small so sometimes nice to have two perspectives.

I don't have any experience with Non Harley service manuals, but I have used Clymer and the like books for other vehicles in the past, I tend to like the Factory ones.

Why pay $50 for the Clymer when you can get the real thing for a little more cash?

A Clymer could be said to compliment the factory service manual, but I wouldn't get one as my first or only manual. There are too many errors and omissions in those I've owned and used, also they tend to cover many years of models, often glossing over the later years. Get the real thing first!

Agree with all the posts here. I've got both. Had the Clymer first and they got the shop manual. I never even look at the Clymer anymore.

Don't make the same mistake I did. Just get a shop manual.

the clymer is great for working on clymer brand motorcycles...

The H-D service manual is comprehensive and will have model and year specific information which the clymer won't have- it'll be more general.

here is a quick test- look at the instructions for removing the right side handlebar controls- the HD will detail a shim to prevent damaging the brake light switch ( and this warning was in the manual for about 30 years) does the clymer have this?

will the clymer have the wiring diagram(s) ?

I believe Surdyke and Boardtracker both sell the factory service manuals for $48 plus shipping. That's where I bought my last 2.

Get the real deal. As has been said, it's more comprehensive.
