DEFINATIVE ANSWER rear axle, best way to remove tire?
I`ve seen threads on this, drop shock bolts or remove muffler. Which way is easier? better? Older bike remove shocks. Newer bike, remove exhaust. Seriously, gotta do it next week or so on my 2006 Streetglide. Want to know, Thanks in advance...............never a clear cut answer....not sure how to start a poll. so help me??? Have a bike lift, not a table lift, but still????

I remove lower shock bolts IF the muffler blocks the axle from access- not all do
on many bikes with 13" shocks this isn;t an issue- on most with 12" shocks, it is-
on newer models the 36mm wrenches needed can be found on amazon/ebay for $10 or so- get the ones which will accept your 3/8 or 1/2 torque wrench
lift...with your bike on the lift what happens when you pull the rear wheel?
you sit there with a wheel in your hands while the bike nose dives...
many lifts are not stable enough, many users don;t use outriggers or straps.
go only as high as needed, get a Pal

I remove the mufflers on my 12 ultra. You can work around it, BUT I can have the mufflers off, brakes off and the wheel laying on the ground in less than 15 minutes. The good part is you can see everything clearly while reassembling the wheel and don't have to have the special axle wrenches to use with your torque wrench. BTW: if this is your first tire install BY ALL MEANS REMEMBER your torque wrench is your best friend and be SURE to torque ALL fasteners to spec AFTER THREADS ARE CLEANED and use the correct Loctite where the MOCO says to. You can shortcut the process, but just how much is your life worth?

I have an 08, to me I've found it easier with my old craftsman mc jack is to put a 2x4 on the ground under the tire, unbolt the shocks and brake caliper then lower the bike enough to clear the mufflers (where the 2x4 comes in). Then remove axle and jack it up high enough to roll it out the back out.

I just put a new rear tire on last week. All mufflers are different. I have the Fuel Moto Jackpot slip ons. All I had to do was un-bolt them from the exhaust hanger mount and let it hang down on the cross over pipe. The rear axle came right out.
I did however, have to remove the right side muffler completely to properly torque the axle nut.
