Bike has 20k miles on it.I'm not original owner so i didn't beat the bike.Don't know if this is normal wear or not. It looks like crap but maybe normal?
Not normal for only 20k. Looks like it's been run through sand and/or gravel. I'd take a real good look at the front sprocket and belt too, might need to replace all of it, though the front sprocket is steel and might be OK.
Once the hard chrome goes, the aluminum starts looking like that. At 20K, originial owner probably did a lot of grooved concrete highways. They do a lot of dusting and it is like taking sandpaper to it.
It will go a ways yet and depending on what you want out of bike, OK. However no across country trips for you. Mine did that at 35K. Still looks OK at close to 50. However that pattern is now also in the belt.
Harley says to replace both pulleys and drive belt when you can take a harden steel scribe and scratch aluminum. It will slide over chrome. If you just replace the rear pulley, since the belt is bumpy, the next will be short lived.
It's a big job to replace it and bet pretty big bucks. Rear tire needs to come off, primary torn all the way down and inner cover cover removed. Gaskets, oil, two pulleys and belt.
I had to replace rear pulley on my 07 UC very early can't remember the mileage. Then had to replace inner primary bearing and was told front pulley and belt are in good shape put close to 100K miles at trade in and new owner has close 125K on it without any issue.

Key information not included, at what point did YOUR rear pulley look look the OP's and then how many more miles have you and the second owner put on?
how did you notice it....belt slipping or something?
No slipping.Removed my wheels for new tires. (posted in cvo section)Just checking and looking for issues.

Why did you have to replace rear pulley? You mean sprocket?Good news you didn't have to replace all mating parts. Thanks for the mileage quote too.

Thanks so much for this excellent post.
So is it a plus if i try to clean by hand with wire brush or just leave it to match belt? Thanks again
Just leave it alone. keep an eye on it and the belt tenesioned correctly (I think on yours unloaded) with a gage. Watch so when it starts actually cupping out, you do not let that get too far and leave you setting or shuck off in a dangerous position. It's a long way from stripping off.

I'LL just leave the adjustments the way they are pictured.Doesn't look like I have much adjustment left.
I do have a belt guage.I'm more familiar with my 02 softail. The belt was more forgiven than this one. This touring is a lot narrower.
Can't understand..More loading of touring bike and a narrower belt..GO FIGURE
