Oh, hell - ah'm "old school" on touring - who knows?
Ran over ta Chama yesterday, then up 550 a ways, then backover taCortez. Kayenta, Page, Cameron an' Tuba City tomorrow... From thar, ta the PetrifiedForest, then kinda gonna wander a bit again.Been hittin' some evenin' showers purty regular - put rain gear on today 'cuz we still had a hunnert miles ta run - none of it real bad, but we kept dry!
Interestin' road tidbit yesterday...outside ofEspanola on 84, thar's a li'l "Hole in the Wall"restaurant called "Socorro's". We pulled in thar ta eat (we HATE eatin' at chain places when travelin'), an' had a killer steak an' chili plate. Kinda lookin' around, ah said ta mahself - "that picture looks JUST like John Travolta"....well, it WAS! Turns out they had eaten there several times last year while makin' "Wild Hogs", an' the owner had talkedhim into some pictures, and even convinced him to sign his autograph next to her Catholic shrine she has there so herSaint could helpprotect him. She said he never said a word about it in protest, and didn't realize at thetime that he's a Scientologist. His actions said a LOT in my mind about him - most "stars" would never do such a thing, especially if itwasn't his faith. Instead, he honored his request andshowed (in my mind, at least) a LOT of class.

I used to frequently make the ride (cage) from Seattle to OKC & back. My favorite ride was the one down through Moab/Cortez/Durango/Pagosa Springs/Chromo/Chama, especially in the winter, since it's a low point in the divide. On one trip, I hit Clines Corners during the June bug hatch -- man, I'd never before seen bugs so thick that they completely covered the ground! As I rolled into the service station, it sounded like a bowl of rice crispies! That was back in the 70s -- still remember it...

Well, it's now Wednesday an' we're in Holbrook, AZ after a day of fightin' 45-65 mph winds (yeah - ah said SIXTY five!!!). We're talkin' sandstorms, white-outs, an' (literally) sheets of tin ta be dodged as they flew across the road at one point! But we made it here - feel lahk ah've been pounded on all day though! Tomorrow it's the Petrified Forest, then back north a bit fer sum more jewelry shoppin'....
Stay safe, Texas. We had 55 mph winds out of the south here today and my 30 miles commute home just about beat me to death. Wind don't normally bother me, but gusting crosswinds make me hold on a little tighter and pucker a little more! Still fun though.
Dunno ah'd call it fun, especially when ya do nigh on 300 miles with them kinda winds! Kept hopin' it'd die down - an' the roads we were on didn't have much in the way of safe places ta pull over, so it wuz kinda one of them "keep on truckin'" situations. But, main thing is we made it, plus were honored to be guests in the homes of some Hopi's who took a shine to my better half an' invited us in to look at their "special stock" jewelry. She found a coupla unique pieces, stuff that normally wouldn't be available to us - and they made her some smokin' prices. I think it's got to do with her being a teacher, because I noticed several times that when they found out she teaches, they treated her with a lot more respect...
