Im considering doing the screw fix to my bike. I broke the tip off trying to replace the brake lever. And it seems like the screw fix is a stronger, longer lasting (not to mention much cheaper) fix than the original anyways. But there is a small tear in the side of the rubber boot. Will that cause any problems for me. If so does anyone have a simple fix for it?

For an update, I took a small sized machine screw and screwed it directly into the switch. Not the lever. I tried using jb weld to affix a nut onto the lever just as a safe alternative and it wouldn't stick. Since I had purchased a new switch already I figured I would screw into that and if I buggered something up I could just replace it. The screw went in easily and now everything works just fine. I screwed in far enough to where I believed the original switch stuck out.

As far as the rubber boot being torn as the previous poster mentioned I would imagine that is an easy place for moisture to get into. Only thing I can think of is that liquid electrical tape depending on how bad the boot is damaged. However I would imagine that a broken switch is already breaking the seal in that spot. So whether the boot around the switch is intact or not moisture could still get in. Having said that, there seems to be an awful lot of us running with broken switches and I have yet to see a mention of moisture hurting anything from this particular problem area.

Awsome! I appreciate the quick reply, As soon as i get off shift im going to give this a shot! I was thinking for the torn boot, its not to bad. i would just shop around for some kind of rubber/ latex material small enough to fit and get a nice seal. Plus use a little jb weld on the flat side of the screw head.

I cut a couple small segments off a zip tie (2 small squares) and gorilla glued them together and then glued them to the lever where it makes contact with the switch. 5 years later, still holding up.
