Here is my solution for the helmet lock. I made these two brackets from a piece of angle aluminum polished them and mounted them to the bottom of the mirror studs. I run gun locks through the d ring through the bracket and lock it the helmets lay on the mirrors.
Works for me.
Thanks for all the ideas. My brother had a helmet stolen while he was on a trip last year. I have never had one taken. My wife and I have been talking about the hassle it would be if someone would take our helmets. We travel a lot and finding a place to get a new helmet could be a problem. Then the cost of the helmet and the head sets we use are not cheap.
I'm pretty sure it's a theft of opportunity and the scum aren't carrying a cable/bolt cutter in their pocket.
But your neighborhoods may vary.
Exactly right. If its the least bit difficult most petty thieves will jut move on.
Of course, like with anything else, if someone is determined or targeting you or something specific they will take it no matter what you do.
I like to be keyless. Simple and easy. The wife could never find her key to get her helmet free. If we were riding with others they would be waiting on her to find their key. I think keyless will be the way to go for us. Thanks again for the ideas.
If you're into guns, like me, you may have dozens of those free locks that come with rifles and handguns. The cable variety is flexible and useful for passing thru a D-ring and attaching somewhere on the bike. Can a motivated thief cut the strap and still steal the helmet? Sure, but good luck using it thereafter without needing to replace the strap.
Thanks, threw one of those in my tour pak. The cable's long enough to go around the lower front part of my modular helmet.
Get your pistol or gun lock to fit into the chin compartment of your helmet. Then, secure it to an appropriate area of your motorcycle, such as the passenger seats or handlebars.
