Default rider backrest install

This thing sucks as it comes from the factory. I bought the less expensive one (not the "adjustable" version). Installed as far back as I could, the backrest was pushing me forward to the point that I couldn't stand it. I took it down to a buddies shop and we put some heat to those bars and bent them back quite a bit. NOW it's comfortable. Who do they build these things for? Munchkins??

I bought the exact one & had to modify mine also. Felt like I was leaning over the tank. After the mod feels great!

I didnt even heat mine, jsut tossed it in my buddies vice and used a pipe wrench to bend it. Now it works well till I throw the little lady ont eh back then she b&m's about having no room. After about 30 miles I remind her the benifits of a 6'4" BF. "Ok honey you rember that top shelf in the kitchen? Ok theres realy no way yourshort *** is getting up there so deal with it while we are on the bike!"

Ok not really but it might happen someday, lol.

I recently installed the adjustable one on my 07 RKC. I'm 6'4" and like you say this is a place where you really notice these bikes are probably optimized for someone who is about 5'10".

Even in the furthest back position I was very cramped, so the tilt adjustability is mostly useless to me.

I was also somewhat unhappy with the fit with my stock seat. Due to the bulk of the adjustable mount, try as I might my seat is about 1/2" from where it should be flush with the tank console up front.

I didn't want to bend the backrest bar, changing its angle to my back and possibly affecting its strength, so I undid the staples in the pad, took out the padding, and trimmed about an inch of foam. This produced a pretty good fit.

It's somewhat constricting still, but I have a history of back problems and now that I'm riding more than ever I think it's worth the inconvenience to not have sharp pains when I stand up the next morning.

I just eyeballed mine when I was bending it and managed to get it perfect. It's sweet spot now is right in the middle of the adjustability range with the little set screw. And...I'm far from freaky tall, only 6', just used to being more stretched out on my Fatboy than I am on this Ultra.

I'm sure the backrest will be the cat's meow now that it's "fixed"!

Did you try adjusting the allen screw in the back of the backrest first?

Yeah, not nearly enough adjustment there to make it right.
