Default Headlight: Aftermarket or Harley brand?

I am sure this may have been talked about, but I cannot find anything about what I am wondering about. I have a step above the stock lights on my 2011 Ultra classic, but need something brighter at night. I am looking at some after markets on Ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/7-CREE-Round...19.m1438.l2649.
You get what you pay for in many instances. Harley wants $475, thereabouts for typically the same style.
I don't want to waste my money on junk(if that's what the Ebay add is).
I also don't feel like spending close to $500 on a new and improved light kit for head and spot lights.
I am also not sure if these are any mods to be done prior to installing anything else.....

Look into Eagle Lights. The kit I purchased was the 8700CG2 for $279.00 back in May. Great product and company to deal with. Sometimes they offer a 10% discount which I had mentioned. Give them a call for your specific bike to get it right first time around.

I don't like the looks of the projector LED lights.

I ordered a lamp from OPT7 http://www.opt-7.com/fluxbeam-motorcycle-led-headlight/

Installed it in my existing light and it works fantastic. Very bright, high quality, no dark areas, and retains your original look. Can't say enough good things about it, and it is much less expensive.

Yes, it's plug and play.

I use a Hella 90/130 watt H4 bulb...my 2011 OE bulb was an H4, cost is about $15 on Amazon or wherever. Stock H4 bulb is 55/60 watts. Suggest that you also get a silicone pigtail, the more powerful H4 bulbs generate a lotta heat...

Thanks, but I am looking more towards a new and improved LED, or another system. Not just bulbs.....

Check out Headlight Revolution's Youtube channel. Lots of good info there, and have a multiple headlight shootout where they compare like a dozen lights. Great information to be had, and made me decide on the VisionX LED headlight.

VisionX and Custom Dynamics headlights are the exact same, just with different nameplates, so you have some options to find the lowest price for the same light. I got mine on Amazon.

Is your factory light the dual bulb or a single H4 bulb? My 08 had the H4 light and I wasn't too impressed but I installed the dual bulb setup last year and I like it much better.

I'm not crazy about the looks of pretty much any of the LED offerings, though I respect their output.

I am considering something different for the passing lamps but I need to find the right look while still having decent performance. I use the passing lamps mostly as a "conspicuity" light anyway as my headlight puts enough light out where I really need it.

I thin kthe standard rules of commerce apply to headlights as well... I don't buy "new" stuff on eBay anymore; too many dishonest or disreputable folks, and too easy to change seller names when things get deep.

Does it have to be an HD headlight? Absolutely not. Many alternatives listed in this thread. Pick one of them, buy from a reputable vendor (or direct if possible), and ride with more light.
