Default New to Street Glides-Looking for info

Ok so I pulled the trigger on what I thought to be a great deal on an 07 Street Glide with 19K miles for 8000.....hopefully I am not alone in thinking it was a good deal. lol

I have an iron 883 and a Road King but am new to the Street Glide world. Here are a few questions that have surfaced in the 48 hours I have had it...

1) I get a clunky sound when I start up sometimes. After research I have read that with the stock compensator it could be a regular occurrence and that one viable solution would be to change to a SE compensator or just deal with it as a "normal occurrence". Sound right?

2) Unfortunately I saw a small drip of oil from the primary. I am not SUPER concerned about it as it is a 10 year old bike but I am having trouble location right now. It appears to be coming from the backside of the primary near the top and dripping down off the bottom bolt (lowest point). Just not sure the source of the leak. I know leaks can come from a number of places but just curious if anyone had some specific insight.

3) on the inner fairing I have 3 small holes on each side. I know there are 2 bolts on each side holding the fairing on but was unsure what these 3 wholes would be for. Is there some kind of pop tab or something that go in these 3 holes on each side.

I am excited to add this bike to my garage. This thing is beautiful.

The three holes on the fairing are probably the holes for mounting the wing vents.

There are actually 4 holes and they are for wind wings which help with wind if you ride much at highway speed.
The drip if it is actually coming from the back of the primary and not the side of the transmission is almost for sure the inner primary seal. It requires the entire primary, compensator and clutch drum removal so you have to decide how much it bothers you. But if you do any other work inside the primary I would go ahead and do it. If the compensator is only making noise at start up but is quiet the rest of the time I wouldn’t do anything. Of course you will get other opinions. The SE comp with your stock 96” is over kill and costs more than three times as much as the stock one. The bolt that holds it on has been known to come loose. Also there is a spring pack behind it that can go bad. But I doubt any of it is bad with that many miles. Plus like I said if you have bad parts it will make noises all of the time.

And there are black plastic plugs you can get from the dealer to plug those holes

Ok, great....so the wholes are nothing i need to mess with unless I want to put the caps in them...That's a positive....

As far as the leak goes it sounds like I just deal with it....although how often would I have to check/add oil in the primary. I have a shop here in the area that has an 80/hr labor charge billed in REAL hours so given that, how much would you expect the repair to cost?

It definitely only makes the clunking sound at start up. The rest of the time the bike sounds and runs beautifully.

Decided to just get it looked at. It was in fact the inner primary seal so I am getting that replaced for 250.00

I ride an 07 street glide that just turned over 75k after a 4600 mi trip to the mid west. I have replaced the inner primary seal twice. Because of bearing failure. Not a big deal at all. Otherwise I agree with Mike. Ride it an enjoy
