Went for a ride today with no issues starting or shutting down. I might mention some of you have mentioned a noise that sounds like marbles. To this point I have never heard that type of sound, only the clanking scraping sound at start up.

I used to have a similar (I think) noise, then I changed my starting procedure. When cold, I give a single full rotation of the throttle and let it return to its stop and leave it there when I crank the engine: No more noise.

When hot don't allow the fuel pump to prime , by that I mean start the bike immediately as soon as you turn on the key or run switch.
I had clanking and hard starts when hot and now that I start this way I don't have any more problems.

 

I pretty much do start it this way, began doing it once I installed a PCV.
