Making it Quieter!
I can tell you that adding packing material around the baffles makes a big difference. I had the same problem as you six hours into a 7-day ride. I stopped at a dealer and they put packing around the baffles in my 4" V&H mufflers. It made the rest of the trip enjoyable.
I've seen dealers trying to sell multiple slip-ons for $10, so ask around.
On a 2-into-1-into-2, the left hand pipe is basically there for looks. It's pretty redundant. I know a lot of people don't like the 2-into-1 look but I do, form and function.

Score a set of stock mufflers from someone and send them to American Custom Exhaust Systems
They take stock mufflers & re-core the baffles.

I really respect what these guys are doing. $199 minus, as I understand it, $75 for your old mufflers.
These are all 99% of riders need and a much better deal for the environment.
(Emissions wil just be the same, but the manufacture/resources costs are nearly nil. Generally it's reckoned that the worst of pollution is actually made in the manufacture of a vehicle, not its use).
Re-wrapping the baffles is a relatively simple undertaking ... Fiberglass matting is available on line or visit a local dirt bike shop ... It's used in silencers all the time ... Remember to use masking tape ( Do Not Use Wires Or Anything Metal ) to secure the wrapping to the baffles before reinserting into the muffler body ... New wrapping will definitely help with the loud noise. Good Luck.
Thank you all for the input. I ordered some wrap and will give it a try first. If it isn't what i'm looking for, then i will start shopping around. I will let you all know how it works out.
Hi,
Brand new on the forum and was about to go the intro but saw this and had to add my 2 cents. I have an '04 Ultraglide that had some minor mods to the cam and aftermarket exhaust. As I leave early I wanted it quieter so put the stock mufflers back on. That wasn't the best plan as it had trouble breathing at higher RPMs. Took it to my friendly, neighbourhood indy and he suggested Super Trapps. It was a perfect solution, bike isn't too loud but has a nice growl and only wakes up a couple of the neighbours.

Yeah, this... smaller baffles, wrapped, will make a large difference.
I just bought a couple pairs of Kuryakyn Crusher Mellow mufflers from a company called “Ironpony”. They are supposed to be easy on the ears and tune well. The price was $199 each set with free shipping.
