Got the baffles wrapped this evening, sound a little mellower, but really no difference on the decibel meter. Going to do a seat of the pants test tomorrow, both highway and two lane. I will no better then. Bringing ear plugs just in case!
Too bad you don't live closer as I have an entire system off an 09 that was on for the first 1000miles just sitting in the basement. I just think shipping that stuff for what it is worth is questionable. Look around at local swap meets. You see all kinds of stuff there.
Glad I brought ear plugs, wrapping the baffles didn't work in this case. I'm going to be keeping an eye out for some different pipes. Thank you all for your input.
I went back to my stock mufflers and am pleased with those...for now.
I tried screaming eagle fatshotz and nightsticks that I bought for a fair price on eBay. Both have a rumble when you accelerate but both are different. Both are too loud for my old ears. For slip ons, they are about as quiet as they come. If you lived close I would let you try them out to see what you think.
I have an open breather and stage 1 download. I think the open breather makes the stock pipes louder than with the restrictive stock breather.
OP, you may want to find some stock take offs for cheap and give those a try.
I have stock slipons from a 2012 on my bike. They are a little louder than my stock 07 ones which had cats in the mufflers as these do not. They have a nice rumble to them that is not obnoxious. I'm very happy happy with them. I realize your system is a little different but they're cheap enough that imho they would be worth a try. Mine were free but I did have to dumpster dive for them.
Just a thought. Try your local dealer. Most dealers change out a lot exhaust systems on new and used bikes and would probably give you a deal on a set of stock mufflers.
