. . .and to add to the excellent adventure: The nuts in the "Saddlebag Support Bracket" on the fender of the RK (don't know what yours has) have a clip (which holds the nut within the bracket) that likes to break off and send you on a search of the missing scoundrel. But finding it is much easier than trying to re-mount it to the backside of the bracket since the clip is broken! That nut receives the bolts that secure the saddlebag brackets (for a RK anyways).
Ditto on what someone had written about trying to get stuff realigned since the fender drops a bit after you remove the "Original Equipment Screws" (shown as #4, 3 & 4, front page, bottom right of your instructions). Trying to get one of those bolts (on each side of fender) back in was a HUGE PIA! I had to put a jack under the tail of my fender and lift it a bit to get the alignment needed (Bike was on ground, not a bike jack).
Also, when you're all done getting all the bolts back in don't tighten up the one holding the saddlebag brackets. Just snug'em enough so that you can still move'em - that way you can align'em with the bags, and then tighten'em. Annnnnd, you don't have to move any of the air lines (for the '07 RK anyways). Since the sissy bar keeps the wife from landing on the pavement Id recommend using a torque wrench, to specs, as instructed.
Because of the alignment "fun", and the broken clips, a simple 1-2 hr job took about 4 hrs and 8 beers.[:@]

Aw crap Scorpio, I was hoping you'd do it yourself so you could help me. Called the dealership, 1.25 hours at $75/hour. Gotta think about it.

It sucks being "not handy" around my own scoot. [:@]

Plus, I don't drink, so how can I figure in 8 beers like 07FLHRCMarinePatriot?

I'd have paid $120+ in a heartbeat if I'd have known what I was in for.

I was foolish enough to follow the crappy-a$$ instructs. Removed the bolts (as instructed) and had a whale of a time getting the bolts back in because of the fender issues already mentioned here.

I was cussing, kicking chit, and ready to beat the hell outta the parts guy (not his fault -- but I was pissed). Took me HOURS to put 4 bolts on...yes HOURS (plural).

Thanks to the info in this forum I didn't feel like a complete idiot when I found out the HD instructions REALLY DO suck and others have had the same problems I had.

Of course, if anyone is in my area and ever wants help gimme a PM. Knowing what I know now, the job is a piece of cake and not "worth" $120. Hindsight being 20/20 and all that...

If you do a search you will find many tips about the installation of the docking kit including some I added myself. If you have no mechanical ability then the instructions are of little use to you as they are mostly wrong and confusing and really are destructions. Save yourself some trouble and use the search function to find the numerous tips in this forum and don't rush. Then you can do it right rather then fast like the Stealers. To bad your not in the Phoenix area or I would help as it would be much easier the second time.

07RG,

This is great, thanks! I'm gonna pour over this a spell, then see if I can man up and try it myself.

I assume it wouldn't be wildly different for an 07 RoadKing.

And to think I was wondering what I was doing at this forum reading all the "Do you like PB&J with or without crusts?" threads.

I used 07RoadGlides directions aftermajor frustrationattempting to follow the included instructions. Made the job MUCH easier. Right side took 3-4 hours. Left side took about 45 minutes after "learning" on the right side.

Don't forget to use blue loctite!!!

I did mine on a 06 RG it all went together better when I threw the directions away. Who writes these things?
