Default Replacing Tires ??

I was curious at what tread depth do most of you replace your tires? I'm around 4/32s so I thinking I should be replacing them soon.

Not sure of the tread depth - Mileage on rear around 10M and 15M on front is what I have been told, hopethat will help.

I was told by a pretty reliable friend that 1/16 of an inch is when you change. I just checked my front and it has 3/16 and was told I was good til the end of the summer. Hope this will help. I'm sure you'll get a lot of different answers. If for some reason your feeling unsafe, just change it. The money's worth your piece of mind. Be safe

HD Service Manual states 2/32". There are wear indicators inside the tread. When the tread getseven withthe indicators it is time to change the tires.

What Bill said...

If you are unsure what he's talking about, your manual should have an illustration to explain the wear bar.

With little 2-up riding I average9-10,000 milesout of arear tire. Every other reartire, alsoreplace the front (18-20K).

Thanks, I was aware of the wear bars, but I was wondering if people tended to replace them before they got to that point. The tires on my wheels now came with them when they were bought on Ebay. So unfortunately I don't know exactly how many miles are on them. Thus my relying on tread depth as opposed to mileage. I have the stock black wall Dunlops sitting in my garage, but I didn't see any reason to switch to them before necessary.

Being aware and having tires on hand you have the advantage of doing it when its convenient for you and piece of mind if you ride in the rain.
