Default Known Issues on 2002 Ultra Classic

Found a 2002 Untra at a decent price. Any known typical problems with this year? (Cam, bearings, ect)

Cam chain tension shoes wear out. I replaced all my stuff with ss510 gear drive at about 25k miles. Bike now has 73kvand actually running a lehman trike kit on it

‘02 is the best pre’09 Year. Cam chain tensioner shoes should be checked/replaced every 20k miles or so.

Ask the owner if they have changed out the cam chain tensioners for gear driven cams. It may have already been done.

I owned a 02 ultra for about 35K mile, bought it new. My tensioners were about 50% worn when I sold her. As been stated, they are a weak point to eyeball. Cam inner bearings should be replaced if not done already, with better units (another weak point). The left fork I believe (or it may be in the right) has the dampener in it which requires it to be completely removed, and inverted to drain all the old oil when your servicing the front forks. On the plus side, the bike rode flawlessly, and I felt good knowing the axles were solid bars instead of hollow. I believe the injectors were delphi, which were easier to replace if needed. A solid bike over-all with a few quirks, (high speed twitching in sweepers which I never experienced, but heard about) like any Harley---------------------------RJ
