Can't stress enough the cam tensioner shoes. You are RIGHT AT THE POINT they self destruct and trash up the inside of the motor. Cheap and easy to check and replace. No matter what else you do, check them first. That is all.

Get the Screaming Eagle kit to replace it. You can get that at your HD dealer.
There are also other kits, to include a gear drive one, that eliminates the chain entirely, and people here have good reports on that too. Me, I opt to keep my bike with as many HD parts as I can, so I am going the screaming eagle route.

You don't need to buy the Screaming Eagle kit at all just replace your pads with the cyco cam chain tensioner pads. Then your all good to go.

This.
My buddy just put the Cyco pads on his Glide. They are a quality pad. And since the chain has already worn smooth and the Cyco pads are harder than stock ones, it'll be 100k on the ODO before he touches them again.

Back then, the breather baffles were plastic. They then went to the better metal ones, and now use the stamped ones. You have to go into it anyway so you will be changing them.
