Default Rear brake problem, 2012 Street glide with abs

Rear brake pedal hard as a rock, I can stand on it very, very hard and it will suddenly give but it tries to lock the rear tire down!! May work ok after that for a little while but will start back doing the same thing soon. Master cylinder, caliper, or module, don't really want to just throw parts at it, please help!!!!!!!!!! Thanks n advance, Tim

Sounds like what happens when the ABS HCU module failed.

Put pressure on your brake pedal and loosen the banjo bolt going to your HCU, if the pedal gives, it’s your HCU.

Go to this link and enter your VIN. That will tell you that your bike is part of the recent brake recall. Be prepared for a $650 repair bill.

Pretty sure the recall addressed 2008 thru 2011, not 2012.

Doesn't matter very much really. All the recall was for is a fluid flush. There have been several reports of brakes working fine, the dealer doing the flush and something locking up. They, HD, then charge to replace the pump. $650 seems to be about the starting point...

And the HCUs are probably failing because the tech isn't thoroughly cleaning out the master cylinder before flushing the lines. If you don't pull the old fluid out of the master cylinder and clean it well before the flush, all that crap goes through the HCU which isn't a good idea. I always clean it up and put fresh brake fluid in the master cylinder before each flush, I've never had a problem.

Good practice to clean the master cylinder , then fill with new fluid ,, then begin the flushing procedure, (same can be done for the hydraulic clutch) .... BUT,, while sucking the old fluid out, and cleaning out the master cylinder , make sure you don't move the lever, as you may/ can, introduce air in the system...
That being said , it looks like the OP has a failed Abs HCU...
