Interested in some swapping? Not sure how much is interchangeable from an 05 to an 09?

I have pretty much all I need, not much would be interchangeable from 05 to 09. I would just as soon hold on to it for the time being.

Thanks
Rick

Are you putting a new speedometer on the gas tank or did it already have one there?

All good man... I just had this thought about some wrenches, an EG, a RK, some beer, and mixin some stuff up.

A couple Frankenbaggers??

I’ll be way better off with a detachable being that I still like to run it stripped down occasionally.

Good look with transformation!

Okay, here's what I'm doing. I've wanted another RK for several years but couldn't bring myself to letting the Glide go as I have so much time and money in it and I don't need 2 bikes. I've been thinking about doing this for a couple of years now and got some inspiration (and advice from the op) from this post.https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...-and-tach.html I had the same issue as him. I like my gauges in front of my eyes, that's the one thing about my RK I never really got used to coming off a 2000 FLHTC.

I picked some parts on Ebay and bought some others new. I didn't want to completely lose my other gauges and wanted to avoid switching gas tanks as with paint it would be costly. I picked up a dual gauge setup and indicator lights from a 2005 Dyna Sport (I think). I cut out the RK handlebar cover same as ReidRik_Von did. The new gauges I bought are Dakota Digital and they allow the fuel, VM, oil pressure and oil temp wiring to be fed to the gauges and read in windows in the gauges.

My first oh **** moment came when I discovered the DD gauges need 3/8" deeper cups. I had a friend machine a couple of deeper new cups which were then welded to the original bracket (tipped them forward 10 degrees), problem solved. I found a nice thick chrome billet aluminum dash insert, machined it for the key switch. I had to run the switch east/west rather than north/south (as found on RK) in order to hide the screw heads.

The insert along with the handlebar clamp and cover are going in for powder coat this week. I found a powder coater 2 miles from my house which just happens to be owned by a Harley nut (collector) and owns several older bikes. I'll be seeing those the next time I go in. In any case he's going out of his way to match my Candy Red Sunglo (08 color). I've already got 2 samples which look close enough to me but he wants to give it another shot. I've been driving by this place for as long as I can remember but never had a reason to stop in.

For the wiring I picked up an 05 fairing interconnect harness and am modifying it to work with these mods. Yep, it's a lot of fun and I wouldn't recommend anyone without some expertise in this area trying it. I have a few more mods to make but everything fits in the nacelle. That was a real trick.

Yeah, I'm a little nuts but I enjoy screwing around with these things.

A couple of pics.

Thanks, I'll be sure to post when finished, hopefully by mid/end of April. I have a few things coming up I see getting in my way of working on it in the next month though.

Talk about good timing. I just got a reply on my photoshop request. What do you guys think, leave it chrome or go with matching powder coat?

Thanks,
Rick

That's currently the way I'm leaning. I think it's too much chrome on the dash otherwise. The color breaks it up a bit.
