Default Hard coat on windshields

Is anyone aware if any of the aftermarket windshields actually have a hard coat to reduce scratches? Stock and OEM Harley shields seem pretty resistant to the cloudy kind of scratches from normal cleaning. The OEM Honda screen on my Pioneer is amazing although the lower part is scratched to hell...so yes, hard coat really works.

I'm looking to replace the stock OEM on the bike because of a stress crack developing from a bolt hole and absolutely want a shield with hard coat. Any ideas??

It’s possible you may find some but they will be much more expensive. All of the aftermarket shields I’ve seen advertised are made from acrylic. The factory Road king windshield and some other OEM shields are made from Polycarbonate. It is a much softer material that makes it bounce on impact so it doesn’t break. But that also makes the surface scratch easily. For that reason the raw material is available with an MR (mar resistant) coating and will be heat stamped saying so. This makes the raw material much more expensive. As much as 4 times as much. The acrylic used for most shields inserted into fairings isn’t available coated as a raw sheet.

I called KlockWorks to inquire about hard coat and they said yes, their shields were hard coated. I WISH I would have asked what material they use! I wonder how scratch resistant KW shields are...

I just looked online and they are MR coated Polycarbonate. So they are a more durable material than the acrylic shields. Their cost seems to be at least double so that’s to be expected

Ya, not cheap! They better be good for the price they are asking. I can see one in my future though.
