Burnt on plastic on powder coated heat shields! HELP!!!
So I had just finished painting my '07 Nightster's ugly gray motor black (future thread to come if anyone is interested in the progression of my bike) and while I was at it I had my V&H short shots heat shields powder coated gloss black to match my tins (rather than the original flat black as they come from V&H.)
Well I mounted the heat shields and then warmed it up to do a primary and engine oil change. After that was done, I warmed it up again and while it was idleing, I took a rag to the oil tank cap to whip my fingerprints off of the cap from closing it. In doing so, I did not realize that the sweatshirt I was using as a rag had fallen down and the screan printed logo on it just touched my BRAND NEW POWDER COATED HEAT SHIELD and left a burnt on image of the logo!
HELP! I need to remove this from the powder coat! I have searched for a couple hours now and I have seen a few different opinions on how to do it, easy off oven cleaner on a rag, mothers chrome polish, windex.... but everything I have found is for stuff burnt on chrome, not powdercoat...
So, what can I use to clean the burnt "plastic" I guess you could call it, off of my powder coated black heat shield??? Of course, safely without causing any further damage to it?
Thank in advance to anyone who can help me out!
I know it's a little late in the game but if your heat shields are going to be subjected to this kind of easy damage you might want to reconsider going with another type of coating that's not [so] affected by heat, lest you be chasing every little smudge, pant leg mark, etc...
Ride safe!
