I had my heat shields, upper rocker covers, and breather cover powder coated black wrinkle not long ago and the heat is getting to the powder on the heat shields.
I originally was going to ceramic coat everything but the painter talked me out of it. I was warned by a buddy of mine, but listened to the painter instead. Its too bad it didn't work out cause it looked dam sexy
I'm gonna get it all redone now in ceramic coating, and thought I'd put this up for any one thinking of going powder coat.
Is there a ceramic coating that has a wrinkle finnish? Any one else make the same mistake?
The powder coat will uphold the temps on the motor with no probs if the techs did it right. The heat shields should be the only thing that needs to be ceramic, but I do believe there is paint at Auto Zone that has a wrinkle finish that can withold the temps.
The problem is the wrinkle powder on the heat shields, engine parts are fine as-is. Go with a smooth finish on your heat shields and you won't have a problem.

i hear so many mixed reactions over this topic it's sickening. between the board and powdercoaters i've asked one says yes you can do it and one says no you can't. it's making my head hurt. i'd really like to coat mine gloss black after much consideration to either wrap them, wrap over the heat shields (man i took heat for that one on here, no pun intended) or powdercoat them. looks like i'll just have to do it and see how they turn out.
Sorry to hear you're getting conflicting info. I have ten years of experience in the field that says a smooth black powder coated finish in any gloss level will hold up on your heat shields.
I can also tell you that the wrinkle black powder that's currently on tjbindel's heat shields is starting to fade to a lighter shade (almost grey) and blistering or flaking up by the heads. Am I wrong TJ? BTW - If it's not blistering or flaking yet it will.
